Afghan resettlement scheme

The Home Office has announced it will launch an Afghan citizens’ resettlement scheme.

The Home Office is committed to providing protection for vulnerable people fleeing Afghanistan. The Afghan citizens’ resettlement scheme will welcome up to 5,000 vulnerable Afghans to the UK, who have been forced to flee the country, in its first year, with up to a total of 20,000 in the long-term.

The scheme is not yet open. Further details will be announced in due course.

As part of the evacuation effort, we continue to work at pace to assist others facing serious risk in Afghanistan. This includes:

  • current or former Chevening Scholars
  • people with existing leave or an open application for student, work and family visas
  • journalists
  • civil society groups for women’s rights
  • government officials
  • officials working in counter-terrorism and counter-narcotics
  • employees of charities, humanitarian organisations and NGOs

If you are able to leave Afghanistan safely by other means, you should do so immediately. Please call us on 02071933839 or email admin@wafi.co.uk to discuss your needs.
